We Got What We Deserved Said Southport Manager

Southport manager Liam Watson admitted that his side had 'got what we deserved' after being knocked out of the FA Cup by fellow National North club Altrincham yesterday.

It's back to league action for the Sandbaggers on Tuesday evening when Hereford are the visitors.

"We got what we deserved," said Watson.

They were 1-0 down at half-time and 3-0 down after 61 minutes. Substitute Mohamed headed home a consolation in the 88th minute but Altrincham fully deserved their victory.

"We came out second half but their two goals were a joke. It gave us a mountain to climb.

"The only way we can look at it - we've got Hereford here on Tuesday and if we beat Hereford we'll be in the play-off positions."

Southport have been on a decent run, they've only lost two of their last ten games, but can Watson lift them for Tuesday night?

"I hope the ones in the changing room are feeling as bad as I am."

In many ways Watson's reaction to going out of the FA Cup was similar to that of Hereford manager Russell Slade when his side were dumped out of the Cup by Tamworth.

"The important thing from my point of view now is okay we have to recover, we have to do things right and we have to respond in the best possible way," said Slade.

"The game kicks you in the teeth sometimes and it hurts and I hope every single one of them in that changing room hurts tonight because I hurt. It's upset me losing that game tonight."
