Really Competitive Game Said Richards

Hereford FC coach Marc Richards gave his views on last night's friendly at Cinderford after his side were defeated 1-0.

"Really competitive game," said Richards.

"A good physical work out.

"I thought Cinderford were excellent.

"I thought we started really well, first ten, fiifteen minutes I thought we were excellent then I thought they were probably the better team, first half especially.

"We made a lot of changes at half time like we did at Wellington so I thought what we got out of it was definitely the physical benefits we were hoping for in terms of how many minutes some of the players were playing.

"But yes lots to work on."

The eleven that started the game looked to contain many who would be expected to start the first eague lgame.

"It was a mix of two halves similar to Wellington really.

"I suppose there were lot of the lads that would have played in the starting eleven last season and some of the new signings but we've got to make sure that the lads are all getting the required minutes at this stage of pre-season.

"We've had four sessions and two games relatively arly in the pre-season schedule."

Several players were missing, will they be available this weekend?

"Yes, should be, Pope should be fine, Symo might not make the weekend but hopefully will be in contention the week after.

"I think we've been looking forward to this weekend away (at Bideford). I think it will be good to get all the lads in the same vicinity where we can get a bit of team building going as well.

"There will be a curfew, not for the staff but maybe for the players. I probably need a curfew to be fair!"

Richards was asked whether any trialists had impressed him.

"There's a couple there who have been doing well in training and showed up alright in the games which is encouraging.

"We'll be taking a smaller squad away for the weekend so won't have the numbers we had at Wellington and at Cinderford but we'll probably take a couple away with us.

"The good thing is that we have been able to intergrate some of the youth team players in and we seen them play. It's great that they've been involved in this pre-season. It's nice now for us to be able to keep an eye on them and track them whether that's with us or continue to train with us but maybe playing somewhere else to start with.

"I think we've done that in the past and I think we'll look to do that to ensure they get some first team football."

Given the game was on Monday, training will be moved this week.

"We're in on Wednesday so slight change to the schedule as usually we're in on Tuesdays and Thursday.

"We'll train Wednesday and leave mid-day Friday."

Will there be any new signings before the weekend?

"I doubt it."

Richards was then asked about players who are out with injuries.

"Danny Greenslade has had an operation on his minicus in his knee. The operation has gone really well but he is in the stage of re-hab at the moment. I don't want to put a time (on his return) without speaking to the specialist and knowing exactly where it's at it's really difficult, especially with minicus as it's a difficult one.

"Hopefully we'll get him back as soon as possible.

"Eliot Richards is a similar situation. Had an operation and is in re-hab. Had a bit of a clear-up in his ankle. So going through the same sort of process as Danny. Both in a similar situation."

Any chance of Jimmy Oates coming back?

"I've just seen his pictures from Ibiza and I think he's now over in Canada on a two year visa.

"You know my connection with Jimmy so I would love to have him here but he's in pastures new at the moment."

Is Keyon Reffell still registered as a Hereford player? (he featured last night)

"Keyon back in pre-season, we are having a chat with him on Wednesday because obviously given the two injuries that he sustained last year.

"Great lad, he's been so positive through the injuries he's been through. I know he's a fans favourite as well. He's an exciting attacking player as well hence why I played him for seventy minutes."
