Nine Years Ago David Keyte Became Chairman Of Hereford United

David Keyte
In the week that Hereford FC has appointed a new chairman BN looks back to June 4th 2010 when David Keyte became chairman of Hereford United.

David Keyte has been named as the new Chairman of Hereford United at today's press conference. Tim Russon is the new Vice Chairman.

Keyte was a footballer with the club's reserve side in the 1970's, and has up to this summer been principal at Bredon School, just outside of Tewkesbury. He has an interest in ID Sports, a sportswear firm based in Malvern.

Russon spent several years as Head of Sport for ITV Central News South. His website offers his services currently as a film producer for promotional and broadcast work.

Speaking to the press conference, Keyte said they would be assisted by Joan Fennessey for a few weeks to aid the transition. They will continue the development of the Blackfriars End, with the completion not expected until the end of the 2010/11 season.

The managerial appointment will be their top priority. A new request for applications was made at the start of the week and a three man shortlist has been compiled from more than 30 applicants. They aim for a top ten finish for the coming season and are looking for a more experienced manager considering their own lack of experience in football.

The pair want to talk to the community and take on board ideas for the club. They are open to suggestions and offers of assistance.

Keyte spoke about how he bought Hereford United

"Hereford born and bred. Had a bit of a flirtation (with the club) when Colin Addison signed me on as a Cathedral schoolboy and didn't quite make it. 1963 my dad brought me here... it's like a dream come true for me. Living the dream.

"I've had a bit of luck in business, got a place out in Barbados. I got off a flight at the end of April, bought the Hereford Times and saw 'the Bulls up for sale' and I thought this is it. I visited my father in Tillington, walked through the door and asked him if he'd seen it - 'I said to your mother if David sees that... and if he's got any money left...'

"We (he and Tim Russon) got together in the last two months. We'd come at it from seperate angles. Joan Fennessey put us together. Delighted with the early workings. I'm an accountant, and will be continuing on the prudence that Graham (Turner) has set for this club. I might be the hard nose businessman, quiet but determined, but I think we've got a nice marriage here that Tim is the communication/TV guy that can get things moving to the community.

"This is no criticism of Graham and co, but we feel that there is an opening to perhaps get the football club back to the Hereford people in some fashion."
