Police Statement Ahead Of Saturday's Game

This from West Mercia Police:

Police are advising anyone attending this Saturday's (20 April) football match between Hereford FC and AFC Telford at Edgar Street to allow extra time making their way to the ground for the near end of season game.

Superintendent Sue Thomas, Policing Commander for Herefordshire said: "We are expecting a large and passionate crowd this Saturday so please give yourself plenty of time to get to the ground. There is much at stake for AFC Telford and it will be an exciting and emotive game. There is a proportionate policing operation in place to ensure everyone stays safe and enjoys the game and the local community can go about their business in the city. All our officers are there to help and support the public so if you've got any concerns please speak to them.

"For anyone attending the game, they are reminded not to bring any form of pyrotechnics such as flares to the match as there will be thorough searches carried out at the gates. If anyone is found to be in possession of pyrotechnics they will not only have them confiscated but they will be arrested too, which will mean they miss the match. Those who may have taken drugs or have drugs on them will not be accepted at a family event such as this and you can expect to see officers actively ensuring a safe and fun day is had by all.

"Protecting the public from harm is our number one priority and we will police the match accordingly with any disorder by either set of fans quickly dealt with.

"I would like to add that investigations are continuing following the unacceptable behaviour of some fans two weeks ago at Edgar Street in the home game against Stockport County FC and arrests are expected."
