Better Attendances Needed Says Blyth Chairman

Blyth Spartans chairman Tony Platten has said better attandances are needed especially if Blyth are promoted.

Currently the average gate is around 700 which Platten says isn't enough to finance the club.

In a statement he explained the problem.

Chairman Tony Platten has stated that the Club is at a crossroad and that only the people of Blyth and Southeast Northumberland can determine the Clubs destiny.

The Club is playing at its highest level ever and is currently three points and one place away from a play-off position. We have a financial model that includes income from sponsorship and other revenue streams of which attendances are a key component. For the club to remain competitive and financially viable at the current level, we require average gates of at least 1,000, if we were promoted to the National Conference the average gate would need to be 1,500.

At present the average attendance is around 700, clearly this will not provide the finances to fully support the club and a playing squad capable taking the club forward. The core support from Blyth and the surrounding area is exemplary, a credit to the club and an invaluable vocal boost to the team, it’s the missing support to make up the difference that is key to the future of the club!
