Over The Years - February 12th

A look back at some of the headlines from February 12th.

1999:

SARAH Eglin of the BBC has been pursueing the fans of Hereford United around the country over the last few months while making a television programme about the club and it's followers.

The fruits of Sarah's work will be unleashed upon the public on 25th February 1999 at 7.30pm, BBC2.

2000:

Steve Piearce faced up to more injury frustration and confessed: It's been a nightmare season.

The Hereford United striker has been limited to just half a dozen games since his summer move from Halesowen Town.

And he fears the season will be all but over before he can start proving his worth to the Bulls.

Piearce saw a specialist this week over the painful back problem which has kept him sidelined. He is due to return to Oswestry again next week for a CT scan to check if there is any damage to his vertebrae.

2001:

Hereford United's midfielder Michael McIndoe has been bid for by two Conference teams, Yeovil Town and Boston United.
Director of Football Graham Turner told the Evening News: "I have had enquiries from Boston and have spoken to their manager Steve Evans, but they seem to do their business publicly, while Yeovil have attended a number of our games. It is no secret that because of the financial situation at the club, players from time to time will have to be sold, and other clubs are aware of this."

2002:

THE Hereford United board of directors have released the following statement through ClubCall (09068 121645):

“It is with increasing concern that we view the public debate, claims and counter-claims, about the future of the Club. As the representatives of the Club’s shareholders, most of whom are supporters, we feel that we should be prominent in future discussions and decisions. We are therefore urging the personnel involved to think about the implications for the future well-being of the Club, put any personal feelings to one side, and sit around a table with us. The purpose being to overcome the impasse between the different parties, ensuring 2003 is reached without the Club facing the prospect of going out of business. Discussions with any proposed consortium who have the interests of the Club at heart would also be welcomed.”

2003:

Hereford United midfielder Jamie Pitman is adamant that the Bulls are still in the championship chase, despite Yeovil leading the table by nine points.
Speaking to BBC Hereford & Worcester after last night's 2-0 win at Margate, he said: "I don't think we should drop a point at home and then we've just got to pick up points away from home as well. We had a little spell just before Christmas where we didn't pick up many points, but hopefully that's our own spell this season."

2004:

Defender Andy Tretton is set to return for Hereford United's trip to Gravesend & Northfleet at Stonebridge Road on Saturday, kick off 3pm.

The former Shrewsbury Town defender has been suffering with a thigh injury but his slow recovery has taken five months. His return came in last Monday's reserve match, and Graham Turner told the Hereford Times: "Andy played for an hour and came through without any adverse reaction."
