Young Keeper Powell Pleased To Be Playing Men's Football

Young Hereford keeper Brandon Powell says it's great to be playing 90 minutes in men's football regularly at Pegasus Juniors.

The 17-year-old is dual-registered with the West Midlands (Regional) League side, and played in their 2-1 win against Clee Hill in the County Challenge Cup on Tuesday evening.

Peggy were under the cosh in the second half with Powell pulling off a number of saves to help them through to the semi-finals.

"It's a pretty good feeling actually, the County Cup is a pretty big thing around here," Powell said.

"I was pretty surprised (to get through), we were under a bit of pressure second half but we pulled through, dug in as a team and we're through to the semis."

Powell has made one appearance for Hereford so far, coming off the bench to replace Martin Horsell between the sticks after he was knocked unconscious.

He says Pegasus is a good platform to build on and he's surrounded by other young players - something which manager Mick Panniers is hoping to change if he can bring in one or two older heads to balance the squad.

"It's good to be getting 90 minutes, obviously I'm still only a young lad so playing men's football at 17 has been a big step really," Powell added.

"It's only going to progress me better as a player, then hopefully further on I'll improve even more.

"Hopefully I can make it into at least semi-professional football, if not I want to play at the highest standard I can. Peggy is one of the places I've got a platform to build upon, a decent side.

"It's a great laugh with the boys, very natural. Pretty much all of them like to have a good laugh, some banter.

"They're really supportive. There's quite a few young lads in the team, the same position as me but we all get on well and support each other."

Bottom-side Pegasus return to league action tomorrow as they travel to Smethwick Town.
