Richards Looks For Experience And Quality As Bulls 'Not Good Enough'

Head Coach Marc Richards has said Hereford aren't good enough at the moment and need physical, experienced players to be in a better position for next Saturday's FA Trophy tie.

FC United of Manchester will make the trip down to Edgar Street for the second time in two weeks, with them beating a poor Hereford side 3-1 last time around.

Richards is hopeful of a couple of signings before then which will mean Hereford can compete with other teams in the National League North.

"Funny how it works, that draw in the FA Trophy," Richards said after yesterday's 2-2 draw at Darlington.

"We'll keep doing what we're doing, I'm hoping that we will be able to bring in some reinforcements in terms of adding quality to the squad.

"We're not good enough at the moment, simple as that. We need to get better players in and get a better squad together so we can be competing week in, week out with these team in the National North.

"We'll prepare as we always do but we are hoping to bring in a couple of bodies for next Saturday."

The lack of experience showed at Darlington on Saturday said Richards and only once the gap is filled then the quality of the recent additions can start shining through.

"I think you saw that, in terms of the lack of experience that we've got out there," he added.

"We need that experience, we need men, we need that sort of physicality to be able to deal with the sort of oppositions that we've got.

"Then the quality that we've got of some of the players we've brought in can actually start get on the ball and start playing.

"That's been out aim since day one, it's just not always that easy to get them straight in. Hopefully that will change next week, and hopefully we'll be in a better position come next Saturday."

Of Hereford's more experienced players, 38-year-old Ryan Green is currently suffering with a handful of knocks and Mike Symons has only just retuned from injury. Symons has played at step two previously with Gloucester and Worcester.

Goalkeeper Martin Horsell, who has made over 300 competitive appearances, is also yet to make his return to between the sticks. Derby County youngster Matt Yates was brought in as cover when Horsell was sidelined through injury six weeks ago.
