Bulls Must Be Braver And Take Responsibility Said Symons

Mike Symons says it's great to be back playing with Hereford but the side need to be braver as at 2-0 up, they gave Darlington a way back into the game yesterday.

The striker was handed his first start of National League North season yesterday after breaking a bone in his leg during preseason and says it was unfortunate the Bulls didn't see the game out.

"It's been 17 or 18 weeks since I broke my leg," Symons told BBC Hereford and Worcester.

"Obviously getting back to playing, especially with Hereford because I've been out for a bit, but getting back playing with the boys again has been absolutely fantastic.

"It's a shame about the result in the end because going 2-0 up I thought we'd hopefully see the game out but unfortunately we didn't."

"It's nice to get out there I just to build up a bit of fitness now, hopefully get some more minutes over the next few weeks and get fitter and stronger over the next month into Christmas."

Tom Owen-Evans scored his second goal of the game in the 50th minute as he doubled Hereford's lead, but minutes later Darlington pulled one back.

Symons felt that if Hereford had been braver, they could have left Blackwell Meadows with three points.

"If we lasted maybe another five or six minutes then they get a bit more frustrated and we go on the counterattack a bit more, we could've maybe got a third," added Symons.

"I know we say it week in, week out, but we've got to be braver at times, we've got to take that responsibility. When the ball is there to be cleared, clear it. But unfortunately today a couple of mistakes and they got to score two goals.

"It's difficult, especially away from home. The goal gives them a lift and the crowd gets with them. We're digging in deeper and the boys defended the box really well, but it's unfortunate that a clearance got blocked, it fell to their lad in the box and he's put it away.

"It was a frustrating afternoon in the end because it could've been three points shooting us up the table a bit."

"I thought we competed well, got 2-0 up and that's when we've got to see games out. We've got to be braver and take responsibility as a group of players and over the next couple of weeks I think you'll see more and more.

"Hopefully we can get that first win and that momentum will come, a few positives but a few negatives as well that we need to creep out the game."
