Ronnie Radford At Edgar Street Today

Ronnie Radford With Matt Healey
Ronnie Radford will be at Edgar Street today. The former Hereford United player is expected to be in the hospitality area before this afternoon's FA Cup tie against Welling. Hopefully he will be interviewed on the pitch at half-time.

Later he will be at the Courtyard to watch 'The Goal' which is a play set around that day in 1972 when Radford scored his world famous goal against Newcastle United.

It has to be hoped that the new team running football at Hereford can turn the fortunes of the club around this afternoon particularily given Radford and other members of the 'class of 72' will be in attendance.

Whether that happens remains to be seen.

In the previous round of the FA Cup it took a replay at Torquay for Hereford to get past Truro. And that went to extra-time.

League form is worse. Two 3-0 defeats, at Chester last Tuesday and at Edgar Street to Spennymoor last Saturday, have put a lot of pressure on Head of Football Tim Harris and manager Marc Richards to turn form around quickly.

Harris has said that the squad is too big. He has already started to cut that number by ousting Jennison Myrie-Williams. He won't be the only one to leave.

What might be more difficult is to bring in a couple of players who can improve the squad. A striker is badly needed as Harry White, at least to date, has failed to impress. Some may argue he hasn't had the service, others may say he's short of confidence. But Hereford have scored just eight goals in eleven league games.

However it's not the league this afternoon, it's the magic of the Cup. And if this afternoon's game turns out to be as exciting as the replay against Truro, then spirits will be lifted.

There are plenty of tickets available for the game, the ticket office will be open from 12 noon.

As ever for those who are unable to watch the game live' both Radio Hereford FC and BBC Hereford and Worcester will have full match commentary of the tie.
