Club historian Ron Parrott feels that Peter Beadle's record with Hereford will never be bettered.
'Yes, football is a very harsh game at times! As you
probably know, I’ve always been a fan of Peter Beadle and he’s never
let us down before in similar situations. Whenever a weakness has been
spotted, he’s always reacted very quickly and often got rid of players
to bring in the right one to solve a particular problem. He’s also never
been slow to move players out to strengthen the squad but
unfortunately, it didn’t happen this time.
'We expected a much tougher
time this season and knew that inevitably, we would start to lose a few
games but what we didn’t expect was the way in which we lost these
games. With only one man up front, we are now the third lowest scorers
in our division and after scoring in excess of 100 goals in each of our
first three seasons, it wasn’t pretty and fans found it hard to fathom
out what sort of signal this was sending out to the opposition,
especially at home.
'Equally as important is our playing budget and with
performances dropping off, crowds were starting to dwindle accordingly
so something had to be done and I must admit that, as harsh as it may
be, once the dust has settled, the Board will be seen to have done the
right thing, although I’m sure that everyone will wish Peter Beadle and
Jenks all the very best for the future.
'Peter’s record as Hereford’s manager is second to
none and his success will never be bettered! His League record is played
138, won 107, drawn 18 and lost 13 with 365 goals scored and only 105
against. His win rate stands at 77.5% and this is streets ahead of any
previous Hereford United managers, the next clocking up only 56%.
People may point out that many of these games have been against weaker
opposition but as I’ve commented previously, you can only beat the
opposition that’s put in front of you.
'Finally, just for the record,
Peter’s record in all first-team games is played 192, won 149, drawn 21,
lost 22 with a magnificent 523 goals scored and only 156 conceded.
Thanks for the memories Peter, you can hold your head up high!'
