It Wasn't Vintage Or Fluent Said Beadle

After Hereford's 2-0 win at St Ives Pete Beadle spoke to BBC H&W's Keith Hall.

"The boys have been so good certainly since we've won the league, with the game against Kettering on Saturday and then the game on Wednesday when I thought the lads were exceptional.

"There was always going to be a lull at some point and we probably saw a little bit of it today. It wasn't vintage, it wasn't fluent but what they did show was great character, great resilience and got the job done.

"Another clean sheet, another three points in the bag and you can't ask for anymore than that."

John Mills came off the bench and then almost immediately scored from the spot following a foul on Dara O'Shea in the box. Beadle says he wants Mills to be right and ready for next year.

"He's been a little bit frustrated lately with his game time, but we've tried to manage him with his knee. Because we want him fighting fit as soon as possible.

"Sometimes people don't look into the future and we want him right and ready for next year. If he'd had played any games this year if we'd have needed him it might have cause him a bit more damage.

"We've tried to look after him, protect him, but it was nice for him to come on and get a goal. A nice ending to the season for him.

And as the interview turned again to next season's North/South debate, Beadle remained in favour of being placed in the National League South.

"If it's the South we'll be able to keep far more of the squad we've got already. Our recruitment has always been based in the South. Although we ventured into Birmingham for one or two we've kept it to the South.

"We'd prefer the South as it gives us the best chance of keeping the squad we've got."
