Two 'Records' For Ryan Green

Club Historian Ron Parrott has been having some fun recently with statistics and had has come up with some fascinating facts. Ron takes up the story: “I was reviewing my stats about sending-offs since the Club was formed in 1924 and it got me thinking about the game in general as the number of sending-offs increased decade by decade. Were the laws of the game and referees in general too slack in the past or are they too stringent now? Were players more sporting in the past and less cynical than they are now? Has the art of hard but fair tackling been lost? The facts are irrefutable so you can make your own mind up:-

1924/25 to 1929/30 – 2 dismissals

1930/31 to 1939/40 – 4 dismissals

1945/46 to 1949/50 – 1 dismissal

1950/51 to 1959/60 – 5 dismissals

1960/61 to 1969/70 – 4 dismissals

1970/71 to 1979/80 – 9 dismissals

1980/81 to 1989/90 – 20 dismissals

1990/91 to 1999/00 – 43 dismissals

2000/01 to 2009/10 - 45 dismissals

2011/12 to 2016/17 – 24 dismissals already.

On a more flippant note though, we know that we’re currently blessed with a wonderful team of record-breakers so here’s one more for the record books! Only seven players in the history of the Club have been dismissed three times, just one player has been sent off four times (Michael Townsend) but standing out there all alone with eight dismissals is ........... our very own Ryan Green! Take a bow Greener!

When I told Ryan that I was putting this article on Bulls News, and I did so with his blessing I hasten to add, I also promised him that I would even things up by publishing a more positive record that he can perhaps be a little more proud of.

Ryan Green In His First Spell At Edgar Street
Ryan Green Taking Little Notice Of Former Bull Gavin McCallum - Andy Compton Picture From 2011
Ryan Green In His Most Recent Away Game - At Gosport On March 6th
Did anyone know that since joining Hereford FC, Ryan has yet to finish on the losing side in a League match away from home? It’s an incredible record, it’s a record that no one will ever come close to again and with his total currently standing a fantastic 45 matches, by heck it’s a record that he can be mighty proud of! Congratulations Greener, let’s make it 50!”
