Report: Hereford 0 - King's Lynn Town 2

King's Lynn became only the second side in Hereford's history to do a league double over the Edgar Street club, as they beat them 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.

After Hereford's defeat in the reverse fixture, they went on a seven game winning run, but this was brought to an abrupt halt yesterday.

Ryan Green was absent from the team due to a knock he picked up in training on Thursday evening, so this gave Jack Deaman the chance to return to the back four.

In the opening exchanges it was King's Lynn who had the majority of possession but didn't really threaten Hereford's keeper Martin Horsell. An early corner in front of the Meadow End was headed clear by Jack Deaman.

Hereford's captain Jimmy Oates went close to opening the scoring with seven minutes on the clock, but his shot was tipped over by Lynn's goalkeeper Alexander Street.

Nine minutes later King's Lynn came inches away from taking the lead after threatening from one of a number of soft free kick decisions. Simon Lappin's curling delivery into the box from the right was missed by Horsell, but former Kidderminster Harriers striker Michael Gash hit the upright with his headed effort.

Mike Symons should've done better when left with just the keeper to beat, but his low driven effort was smothered by Street at the foot of the post.

With 29 minutes on the clock, Hereford had a chance of their own denied by the woodwork. A cross from the right wing was delivered with pinpoint accuracy to Keyon Reffell, but his headed effort rattled off the crossbar as Street was well-beaten in-between the sticks.

King's Lynn had two goalworthy chances moments before the break but were unable to capitalise on them. The first saw Ryan Hawkins' cross-come-shot poked wide by Toby Hilliard, before Ryan Jarvis' effort from outside the area sailed into the arms of the well-placed Horsell.

The first chance of the second half fell to Hereford from a corner, with Billy Murphy's powerful shot catching everyone off guard as it rebounded off the bar.

But despite the positive opening, King's Lynn went on to take their chances.

The Linnets took the lead in the 58th minute courtesy of Ryan Fryatt. Captain Michael Clunan's corner was flicked into the path of Fryatt by Michael Gash, with the 24 year old finding the back of the net with a header from point-blank range.

At the other end of the field it was Mike Symons who had the chance to cancel out Lynn's opener, but after Billy Murphy threaded a pass through, Symons' effort was wide of the mark.

Just five minutes after breaking the deadlock, the visitors netted a second. Toby Hilliard, who scored the winner at The Walks in January, made the most of Jimmy Oates' error to fire the ball past Horsell at his near-post.

A double-change for the Whites injected so hope into the vocal home supporters, as Myrie-Williams and Eliot Richards made way for firm-favourite John Mills and Lance Smith.

The majority of the 3,424-strong crowd were left reeling after Ryan Hawkins appeared to tip Dara O'Shea's header over the bar. As Pablo Haysham swung the ball into the box from a corner, Street was only able to punch the ball as far as O'Shea 12-yards out, but his headed was adjudged to have been inches high and out for goal kick.

In the 79th minute a foul on Pablo Haysham just outside the area saw Hawkins go into the referee's notebook. As John Mills stepped up to try his luck, his effort beat the seven-man wall but proved a routine save for Street.

The Linnets became hard to break down and Hereford weren't able to claw a goal back through substitute Jamie Bird five minutes into stoppage time. As the ball was played across to Bird on the righthand side of the 18-yard box, his bouncing effort didn't deceive the keeper as Street kept his clean sheet intact.

In was a relatively even match with the only difference King's Lynn had their chances and took them. The goals from Fryatt and
