Men Against Boys Said Brown

Terry Brown Talking To The Basingstoke OS.
Basingstoke manager Terry Brown spoke to BN after this afternoon's 4-1 defeat to Hereford.

"It was men against boys I think," said Brown.

"We've got a very depleted squad at the moment and we could have done without playing Hereford today.

"I think Hereford are a quality side especially in this League and they are proving it in both the Cup and the League.

"If you had asked me if I would have taken 4-1 at half-time I would have bit your hand off.

"The third and the fourth goal we gave away was horrendous but they are young lads and they are learning.

"It's a difficult stage to come here and play in front of the biggest gate of the year and some of them did themselves proud and some weren't quite up to it."

Basingstoke went in front after six minutes or so.

"Yes, a good start with three efforts on target, the third one we scored from but then on we were skinned down the flanks with balls coming in and we were not strong enough in the end defensively.

"We have good games and some pretty awful ones and considering who we were playing today I can be proud of the fact they worked their socks off. That's all you can ask as a manager of a young side."

Brown was asked about the Hereford players.

Ryan Green
"I can remember Green from years back and he's still a quality player. The other centre half (Jack Deaman) once played for Basingstoke. He's a good boy. Both of them played really well today.

"You've got a good side and I wish you all the best in the next round of the Cup."

Brown has managed several sides that played against Hereford United.

"Yes, I can remember coming here with Hayes and winning. Then obviously in that play-off winning on penalties, that will always be a special for Aldershot, not a very special day for Hereford.

"I played against them with Wimbledon when both sides were in League Two and always enjoyed the games."
