We Didn’t Match Merthyr’s Desire said Beadle

Hereford manager Pete Beadle spoke to the press after this afternoon’s goalless draw at cash-strapped Merthyr Town.

He told BBC H&W’s reporter Keith Hall that he didn’t feel like his side were at the races.

"I thought Merthyr were outstanding with how they approached the game," said Beadle.

"Their energy levels were fantastic, but in open play they didn't really cause us a huge amount of problems, but we weren't at the races.

"It's disappointing because we've come here and had so many fans behind us here today, we wanted to continue our form of late which has been very good.

"It's frustrating that we've only picked up a point in a game that we should have won. We had enough clear-cut chances. Merthyr have had one right at the end, but Keyon [Reffell] has had one first half, one second half and some good play.

"But we weren't good enough today."

Hall then asked was it a case of adjusting to the changes made to the side?

"We've had to make changes. That's our fifth game in just over two weeks, we've got a lot of games coming and we've picked up injuries. We've changed it in every game we've had so far and the players out there were good enough.

"What we didn't do was start right - our mentality. I think the players arrived here today and with all the problems Merthyr have been facing, they thought turning up would've been enough to win the game.

"They started great, we didn't start so well and took a little while to get going. We're disappointed because we've been so good up until today, we didn't match their energy, desire and they wanted it more than we did."

Hereford are still unbeaten on the road in the league, a run which now stands at 50 games.

"I'm more interested in performances, and today it wasn't there. It has been a hard time for the players, they've played a lot of games, but they've had a few days preparation to get ready for the game.

"Merthyr played Saturday, very much the same team as what played today. We've made a few changes to change it round a little bit, but we never got going.

"We never looked fluent, we never had any rhythm to our play or had any desire to close down or work harder than they did. I'm sure Merthyr feel this is the least they deserve."
