Greenslade Turns Down Move To Hereford

Danny Greenslade has turned down a move to Hereford despite Weston and Hereford agreeing terms.

Peter Beadle spoke about what had happened in his post match interview.

"We agreed a fee for the left back on Wednesday," said Beadle.

"I then spoke to him on Thursday and everything seemed pretty rosy, then yesterday afternoon he rang me and told me he had changed his mind. He wasn't coming to Hereford, it was too much of a gamble.

"Really disappointed with the way it turned out. We've been a big admirer of his for a little while now

"He was one we tried to bring in in the summer along with James Bowen but he decided to go back to Weston when he finished his loan. He's very loyal which I applaud.

"When we first spoke to him he wanted to be at a club which matched his ambitions but now he sees coming to us for the foreseeable future as a gamble.

"But that's the way it is so that's now been done and dusted and put to bed and we move on to our next target."

Beadle had previously spoken of a possible loan deal for a different player.

"So we're going to look at that possibility this week. Possibly too quick for Tuesday and then we have the FA Cup so we look for something short-term for now and over a period of time look for something more long term."

Jimmy Oates has played at left back in recent games.

"I think he did great this afternoon but if he gets injuried or Dara gets injuried who do we play there.

"You can play Purds there but who do you play in the middle of the park?

"As I said at the start of the season we've got great flexibility in the squad, players who can play lots of different positions, but you want them to play in their strongest position each game.

"Dara has been fantastic again at right back, Jimmy at left back but Jimmy is not the permanent solution.

"We need a natural left sided full back, someone who can use a left foot, Jimmy is happy to use his left foot and that's why he is playing there but obviously he is usually right footed and so a lot of the time he will keep checking back onto his right foot which is fine. He played well today but we do want a predominantly left sided full back."

Beadle was asked if he had really expected to have had to make three different offers for Greenslade.

"You start off at one fee, they say they want something else and normally you meet in the middle but they didn't want to lose him, he's talented young man but they eventually agreed to a fee and I was delighted that the board had backed us to do that.

"But unfortunately after agreeing that it just didn't work out for the boy. He wasn't 100% convinced it was the right thing for him.

"Really disappointed that we've spent as much time as we have on doing this. But there's no point having irons in the fire and lining up two or three left backs when you only want the one. And he was our first choice to try and bring in but now we are ten days behind and we've got to start all over again.

"There aren't that many good left backs that we feel could come here and play for us. It's going to be tough to replace James."

So what about this loanee that Beadle had spoken about?

"Same person hopefully so we'll go back to them on Monday but it might be a bit too short notice to get it done for Tuesday. But that then gives us a week to organise and get it sorted.

"If it's a loan then that's great as it gives us a chance and look whilst we have somebody more naturally left-sided to play there.

"The player we are are looking at could possibly be a youth loan. That might allow us a bit longer term, when they want to call him back they can which would free him up to play in under 23 games for the parent club.

"We'll wait and see."
