Again We've Shot Ourselves In The Foot Said Beadle

Hereford manager Peter Beadle spoke to the local media after his side was defeated 1-0 by Slough Town this afternoon at Edgar Street.

"We expected a tough game and we got that," said Beadle.

"Again we have shot ourselves in the foot a little bit, we did it a lot last year and we've done it again today.

"But the positives are that we know that Slough are a strong side, one of the top teams in this division, we know they finished in the play-offs last year and I thought at times we were better than them.

"That's the positive that we can take out of it. But a disappointing end to the game and we've got to move on."

The only goal of the game came just before half-time. Hereford had a free kick in theSlough end but Slough gained possession.

"The fellow who scored the goal , I'll have to watch the video, but I can guarantee he was marking someone from that free kick.

"So if he can get from there to there and tap it in, why can't we.

"It's the same old adage, the amount of goals we conceeded from our corners or our free kicks in the final third when we just switch off.

"And you keep reminding them every single week, what if he slips, what if he misses the free kick, what if they break away.  We just keep getting punished."

Beadle had to make late changes and brought in Mike McGrath and Ryan Green in place of Jack Deaman and Keyon Reffell.

Ryan Green And Mike McGrath Started This Afternoon
"We were down to the bare bones today. Players played that probably shouldn't have played today but it's no excuse, we still competed well enough but we're just disappointed that one or two or as a team we didn't get on the ball as we did on Tuesday.

"It was almost like we were waiting for someone to do something.

"We're a team that wants to play the right way, play it on the ground, want to play sharp, want to play bright, but for whatever reason today it just wasn't there."

During the second half Hereford striker Mike Symons was shown a straight red card was an incident which many didn't see.

"I haven't seen it properly yet but the referee said it was something to do with forward motion towards the lads face.

"I know that him and the centre half was grappling to try and get free. I think the lad grabbed Mike first, Mike has tried to push him off and that's how the referee might has seen it.

"Mike's been a bit unlucky in being caught as in trying to push the lad off but I don't think Mike would try to throw a punch, Mike's not that type of person.

"I haven't spoke to the ref yet but I will speak to him and ask him what he saw and did he not see just the bit before it. It's not making things right, two big lads scrapping to find space and maybe he saw something we didn't."

Slough had Matt Lench sent off for a second yellow card close to the Hereford bench.

"It wasn't a bookable challenge. No excuses but I thought the officals weren't strong enough today but it's irrevelent.

"But we got punished, it wasn't the referee who put the ball in the net, it was their number six so we need to be better."

Beadle was then asked about the injury situation at the club.

"Jack (Deaman) rolled his ankle in the last twenty minutes of training on Thursday. A nothing challenge. Basically he's trod on Pablo's foot and as he moved his foot Jack has rolled his ankle. So we're looking at a few weeks with him.

"Ryan  (Green) came in and played and probably shouldn't have played.

"Mark (Preece) is carrying an achilles injury as well so it wasn't ideal that all three centre-halves are injuried all at the same times. It's an unknown for me.

"We've been very lucky over the past two years but right now we had to throw Mike (McGrath) in at the start and he looked a bit rusty.

"The two centre halves had to play as we had nobody else. Purdie is getting closer but it's been a tough start and a tough end to pre-season with the injuries we've picked up because they haven't been little niggles, quite nasty little injuries that'll take a few weeks to get over."
