Jimmy Oates' Future is Black and White

This is from the club:
Defender Jimmy Oates has committed his future to Hereford FC, extending his Edgar Street stay by signing a contract with the club to the end of the 2017/18 season.
“I feel very privileged and excited having just signed my first contract for Hereford FC. It has been an exceptional season so far and the whole squad has worked extremely hard to be in the position we are in at the moment, so to know that I will be a part of it again next season is a great feeling. I’ve absolutely loved my time with the mighty Bulls and can’t wait to finish off what we’ve started this season and keep the ball rolling in 2017/2018.
“A massive thank you to Ken and the members of the board and especially Beads and Jenks for all of their support and commitment.”

Purdie Wants Nine Wins Despite a 'Tough Last Six Games'

Rob Purdie Lining Up A Free Kick At Yesterday's Game
After yesterday's 2-0 win at home to Swindon Supermarine, midfielder Rob Purdie spoke to BBC Hereford and Worcester's Trevor Owens.

"I thought we were as comfortable as we have been in a long time this season," said Purdie.

"They (Swindon) came to starve us and play on the break, but we were strong at the back and it was a pretty easy 2-0 at the end of it."

Onto the first goal. Mike Symons was fouled in the box, before John Mills fired home the penalty.

"It was a silly challenge, but Symons is good. He has a turn of pace which people don't give him credit for and he gets around you because he's so big.

"There were a few questionable decisions in the first 15 to 20 minutes, that one went our way and Mills put it away."

Purdie then spoke about John Mills' second goal.

"Pabs (Pablo Haysham) has made something out of nothing, puts in a great ball and a great touch from Millsy.

"In the past couple of games we probably would've let that go out for a corner or a throw in.

"We needed that second goal because you never know what could happen. All it takes is a set-piece or a lapse of concentration, but as soon as the second goal went in everyone could breath a little bit easier."

Hereford went into the game after back-to-back draws in the league,

"Today was quite a big game, if we hadn't have picked up three points then the other teams would've perked up around us and doubts might have started to set in.

"We've got three games now which we'd like to pick up maximum points, but then we've got a tough run-in."

There are nine games left of the season, all of which are on a Saturday with the exception of Evesham away on Easter Monday.

"We've got a tough last six games, we've got to go to three teams away who are in the play-off places, and Winchester at home who aren't a bad team.

"We want nine wins, forget about a tough run-in or a couple of draws, we want nine wins out of nine and we're capable of doing it - so we'll start with that next week."

Hereford Are An Excellent Side Said Webb

Swindon Supermarine Keeper Saves A John Mills Effort
Swindon Supermarine manager Dave Webb was pleased with his side's performance against Hereford yesterday after their 6-1 defeat by Salisbury the previous Saturday.

“They’re an excellent side and we had a game plan that we executed well but unfortunately gave a penalty away in the first half," said Webb as reported by Swindon Advertiser.

“We continued what we were doing and made a couple of changes on the hour to try and take the game to them.

“We lost the game 2-0 but anybody that’s watched the game will say that the boys have put in a good shift, and we just came up against a very good Hereford side.

“They’re top of the league on merit and credit to them because they’re a very good team. They’ll go on and win the league comfortably.

“It’s no disgrace for us. I’m pleased with the performance and the way the players went about what we asked them to do.

“The players have done the club proud and they’ve put in a good shift, and even though we’ve lost, I always think there’s a way to lose.

“If we were going to lose, we went down fighting. That was important to me as a manager and they’ve done that."

Half Time Activities

Three different groups were on the pitch at halftime during yesterday's Hereford versus Swindon Supermarine game.

The first group were local scouts, the second a group of youngsters enjoying a game as part of a party at the club and the third group taking part in a Junior Bulls Penalty Shoot-out.

South And West Weekend Review

John Mills Kicked Off For Hereford Yesterday. By The End Of 90 Minutes He Had Scored Twice
John Mills took his tally of goals for the season to date to 31 with another brace as Hereford FC maintained their huge seventeen-point lead at the top of the Evo-Stik League Southern Division One South & West table on Saturday writes Steve Whitney

Focus On Winning This League First Said Jenkins

After yesterday's 2-0 win over Swindon Supermarine, assistant manager Steve Jenkins was asked what he knew about next week's opponents Didcot. He played them several times when managing Merthyr.

"It was different them, they had Millsy and Pablo!" Jenkins told BN.

"It's not an easy place to go but that's it with us.

"Everybody is up for it, so we've got to be right for every game, we know we've got to get everyone at their maximum and at their best."

Looking forward have you given next season much thought?

"Of course we've had conversations, you'd be foolish not to.

"But our first priority is getting this season out of the way.

"Get this out of the way and we'll look at getting a squad capable, hopefully, of doing what this squad has done by getting us out of this league.

"So there will be new players coming in, but we'll see closer to the time.

"You've got to evolve, you can't standstill. If you standstill you start going backwards."

Jenkins spoke about how he felt leagues are split up into sections.

"There are always three leagues within a league, you always have eight strong good quality teams, then eight midtable where they never really threaten and then teams who budgetwise may be small and always struggle.

"The eight in the league above they will be strong and they will be a test but there won't be 24 teams of all great quality because it doesn't happen that way.

"Like in our league now you've got a top six, top eight who are decent. It was probably the same last year a six or eight who you know will give you a test.

"It's about making sure you are competitive in that top part of that league."

Asked about retaining players, Jenkins was guarded.

"We've haven't won yet and our focus will never ever change until we win this league

"In terms of going forward we must deal with this first and then we'll start planning."

John Mills Who Scored Both Hereford's Goals Receiving Treatment From Physio Jonny Evans Towards The End Of The Game.
One change was made to the Hereford starting XI ahead of Swindon Supermarine's visit to Edgar Street on Saturday. Jamie Molyneux dropped to the bench to make way for Tristan Plummer on the right wing.

Hereford's first chance on goal came in the ninth minute when Mike McGrath got on the end of Rob Purdie's corner, but his bullet header was cleared off the line by Supermarine's captain Sean Morris.

Three minutes later, Connor Waldon intercepted a misplaced pace from McGrath and was through on goal, but he fired straight at Hereford’s keeper Alex Harris.

John Mills came agonisingly close to opening the scoring in the 14th minute, but after getting on the end of Tristan Plummer's looping ball forward, his shot on the turn went inches wide of the visitors’ goal.

In the 25th minute Mike Symons' persistence paid off as he broke into the box, but he was bundled over by Jack Alexander. With referee Sarah Garratt awarding the Bulls a penalty, and as usual John Mills stepped up, powerfully striking the ball past the keeper with his right foot to break the deadlock.

Tristan Plummer should've done better with a couple of shots from the edge of the area, but he fired both well over the crossbar with little pressure from Swindon's defence.

Pablo Haysham missed a sitter just before half time to increase Hereford’s lead. Swindon’s keeper committed to a loose ball, but it fell to Haysham who curled his effort wide at the far post with the goal gaping.

HT: Hereford 1 - Swindon Supermarine 0

Mike Symons almost made it two three minutes after the restart, but after a smart turn his shot from close-range was saved by the outstretched arm of the keeper.

With Hereford slow to get the ball forward, Pablo Haysham eventually made a spirited run from midfield. As he played a neat ball through to Mike Symons, his shot forced visiting keeper Connor Johns into making a great save, tipping the ball over the bar.

In the 62nd minute, Mark Preece was booked for a needless challenge on one of Swindon's strikers, with substitute Josh Parsons stepping up to take the free kick on the edge of the area. Parsons' first shot was blocked by Hereford's five man wall, before his follow up was well-wide of Harris' goal.

With Hereford seeking to double their lead, John Mills bagged his second of the afternoon in the 66th minute. Pablo Haysham robbed Swindon’s Jon Else of the ball on the left wing before quickly crossing in to John Mills. The Hereford marksman dived to get onto the end of Haysham’s cross, sending his glancing header into the bottom right hand corner of the net.

20 minutes from time, Tristan Plummer was tripped as he made progress down the right. Mike McGrath delivered the ball from the resulting free kick into the area, but Mike Symons was unable to get enough on his header to further increase the Whites' lead

In the 79th minute, Tristan Plummer saw his shot blocked by Joe Shepherd after breaking forward from a Supermarine corner, but the better option may have been to slip the ball through to the better placed Pablo Haysham.

Two goalworthy chances followed for the Bulls, but after Mike Symons headed Rob Purdie’s free kick onto the post, John Mills’ weak effort was straight into the arms of the keeper.

The woodwork once again kept Symons off the scoresheet, with his shot rattling off the crossbar in the 89th minute.

A hair-raising moment followed for Hereford as Swindon had a couple of shots on goal against the run of play, but Harris was on hand to maintain a clean sheet.
