Hereford FC manager Peter Beadle was pleased to win the first leg semi final of the Midland League Cup against Stourport Swifts but admitted that the performance was not quite there.
His starting eleven only contained keeper Martin Horsell and defender James Bowen from the eleven that started at Sporting Khalsa on Tuesday evening.
"It was a great result but the performance wasn't quite there but you don't expect anything less with a team you put together," said Beadle.
"They've been part of the group for a long time but there are quite a few out there that haven't had many minutes.
"First half was a little bit all over the place and the body language didn't look great and I think that was because they were probably expecting a bit too much from themselves. We said to them relax a bit more.
"And again we seen tonight that the pitch looks good from a distance but it's as bobbly as you like out there and it showed it.
"We've just got to do the basics well, we did them better second half and we worked a little harder and we looked like wanting it a bit more than they did which makes a big difference.
"Unfortunately it was a bit of a mistake but sometimes when the games are that tight you wait for that mistake and you take a chance and Millsy's buried it. I thought his second half performance deserved a goal."
There were only two real clear cut chances in the game, Mills goal and the Stourport penalty.
"Their lad on the left played ever so well all night and I felt sorry for Max because Max has come in and hasn't played much at all and the lad was sharp.
"I thought he was looking for it, fair play to him he's had a couple of bites at it, he's come inside twice and got into the box and waiting for someone to stick their leg out and he's won his team a penalty.
"And then Horsell stands up and guesses the right way and make a really good save.
"I'm pleased because there are a lot that have got ninety minutes, they'll feel it tomorrow but it's good for them.
"Some will be involved on Saturday, some could be on Monday and then we've got the second leg on Thursday.
"It's a third clean sheet on the bounce and another win so we can't ask any more than that especially from the boys who haven't played much lately.
"Stourport are going to finish in the top ten and we've put a team out that played much at all recently so to come home with a 1-0 win we should be really happy with that."
