Peter Beadle After Full Time |
Hereford manager Peter Beadle gave his thoughts on the FA Vase victory at Salisbury to BBC Hereford and Worcester.
"Disappointed first half," said Beadle.
"The way they started credit to them, I thought they came out the blocks quick and they put us under pressure early.
"And we looked a little bit, bit like rabbits in the headlights, a little bit, we didn't know it was coming.
"We knew what to expect, we talked about it on Wednesday, we talked about it again today.
"And they got the goal and I just thought we were a bit flat.
"But we got our first goal perfect time, just before half time.
"But we got our first goal perfect time, just before half time.
"We tried to move the ball quickly but hadn't really created anything then all of a sudden Mike's popped up at the back stick and managed to put one away.
"Then half time it was more about getting in there, getting them more compact, getting more organised and just showing a bit more desire and belief.
"Second half I thought we were superb from back to front, I thought the back four and keeper were excellent, they were much more comfortable, they marshalled the forwards perfectly. We dealt with their threats ever so well and we looked a constant threat ourselves.
"We had some fantastic chances second half to really wrap it up.
"But we did the job and I said last week we will try and win both games and we've done exactly that and now we've got the real cherry on the cake."
Mike Symons scored just before half-time.
"Credit to them, they put their foot on the throttle and really came at us first half.
"We gave away a really poor goal, a set piece, a long ball into the box and we didn't cope with it very well. We've had a problem like that all season.
"We took a while to get going but the goal came at the perfect time. Got the goal, come in level again with our noses in front and a chance to regroup at half time and come out and put on a better performance.
"Second half we did exactly that."
Mustapha Bundu missed a penalty.
"It's one of them and it's why I talk about video highlights and stuff like that.
"Muss has had two penalties recently and has put both in the same corner, so no doubt they've watched it and the keeper has guessed right and it was a great save.
"It wasn't a poor penalty, it was well struck but the keeper knew where he was going. He thinks he's going to change the next one but the lads have said he's not on the next one.
"It's all new for him, this sort of adulation and the affinity with the fans, for an 18 year old it's a lot to carry.
"It wasn't great at times today, but did much better second half. All we ask from him is to constantly be a threat.
"Our front four need to be a constant threat and today they were second half. But it took a half to get them going.
"But at the end of it I couldn't be prouder of them, it's been a phenomenal two weekends, two fantastic teams trying to play in the right way, fantastically supported by their fans who stuck with them through both games.
"We've just come out on top this time around but I'm sure they will be chomping at the bit now to get back into league action."
