Promotion Remains The Priority Said Hereford Chairman

After this afternoon's game at Salisbury which Hereford won 2-1 and therefore will be in the FA Vase final at Wembley, Hereford FC chairman Jon Hale spoke to BN.

"It hasn't quite sunk in yet to be honest," said Hale

"We came here today with a slender lead and I don't think anyone really could guess what was going to happen.

"It was a tight game and the way Salisbury started today, they could easily have scored a couple of goals and we would have been chasing the game.

"Our goal just before half time probably killed them a little bit and second half I thought we were very very professional.

"I guess Peter got the tactics absolutely right. He probably knew that they could score at some point and that we could score at some point.

"To go and win both legs in a semi-final with such a huge prize at stake is a fantastic testament to the management, to the players and everyone involved with the club.

"I've just been in to see the players and we are all so proud of them because they are proud to wear the shirt and that's why people are behind them.

"We want players that want to be out there for us. They've been outstanding all season especially these two legs of the semi-final."

Promotion remains number one on the agenda?

"It's number one, always has been.

"It will remain our priority over Vase. The Vase run has been a bonus for us.

"Getting to Wembley is a fantastic achievement, it will be a fantastic celebration for everybody but we're back to the action on Tuesday night and that has to be the priority.

"We want to win the Midland League. Alvechurch are putting in a very good effort, they won again today.

"We've got to win these games in hand and we've got to keep going, simple as that.

"The Vase final is on the back burner now, we must concentrate on league games and hopefully get promotion. It's going to be very tough.

"But we've seen the character of these players and every game they go out, they go out to win a game of football and have the ability to do it.

"If they apply themselves like they did second half today you can see what they can achieve."

So how many can we take to Wembley?

"I believe we can beat the attendance at Leicester, I'd love to see us take 15,000 there.

"There has been so much interest in this club and these players deserve it.

"But for now let's just concentrate on celebrating tonight."
