Morpeth Chairman: The Best Day of My Life

When Morpeth Town beat Bowers and Pitsea of Essex 4-3 on aggregate, they booked themselves a place at Wembley in the FA Vase final against Hereford.

Ken Beattie has been involved with the Northumberland side for nearly 50 years, and is currently the chairman.

“I feel unbelievable, it’s a dream," Beattie told the Newcastle Chronicle.

"I’ve been involved with this club for 47 years, as a player, an administrator and now as chairman and today is the best day of the lot.

"It really is a dream come true.

“For all the people who have been involved with this club, all the time, all the effort they’ve put in, that is who it is for. The crowd were fantastic.

“Today is the best day in the 134-year history of this club, the best day of my life."

The victory was sealed thanks to a 97th minute goal from Luke Carr, who joined the club in the summer.

“The lads worked hard and to score such a late winner is fairytale stuff.

"The entire town is behind us and there’s a real buzz about the place.

"Everyone has been talking about it for weeks and now we have done it.

“We had people here who had never been before and they couldn’t believe the atmosphere."

The winning goal came from Keith Graydon's cross, which Carr managed to poke in from close-range.

"When the goal went in, there was chaos, absolute chaos. People were grabbing each other, it was brilliant.

“Some fans have already booked their hotels and travel down to London for the final. People are in disbelief, after all the years of following the club they are now going to get a trip to Wembley.”
