Biggest Game In The Life Of Hereford FC

Tomorrow's FA Vase semi-final first leg against Salisbury is the biggest game to date in the short life of Hereford FC.

It was just eight months ago, July 7th 2015, when the new club played its first friendly at Malvern.

At that time supporters were looking forward to a good season, hopefully with a chance of promotion. But to be currently top of the league, in the semi-final of the FA Vase, the semi-final of the Midland League Cup, and the final of the HFA County Cup is probably more than anyone realistically could have hoped for.

A day at Wembley is now just two games away. This is probably the only chance the new club will get to play at the National Stadium for many years. And if the club is promoted it will not be in the Vase next season.

The bookies are backing Hereford to win the first leg.

Hereford 5/6  Draw 11/4  Salisbury 9/4

However it's at times like these supporters remember those two seasons in the Conference when Hereford United failed to get through the play-offs when they was an expectation that they would have reached the final.

After last Tuesday's 2-0 win at Highgate with a side without five regular first team players, Hereford manager Peter Beadle seemed confident that his squad would rise to the challenge.

"If we play anything like and battle like we did tonight then it's going to take a real big performance from them to get a result.

"The lads they'll look forward to this and hopefully really play for the occasion and put on a performance which I know they are capable of."

Salisbury manager Steve Claridge has admitted that Salisbury are not as big a club as Hereford.

"I want us to show that we can also be a big club at Non-League level," he said.

"The prize is huge, after all. If we win, we are going to Wembley, which is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for this club.

"It's going to be an incredible day up at Hereford, just a fantastic atmosphere and I know my team and squad will give it their all."

Meanwhile BBC Midlands Today are expected at Edgar Street today to film an item for tonight's programme.

Finally the club have produced a 64 page programme for the game which includes a feature about former player Dudley Tyler.

Programmes can be pre-ordered here, with programmes posted out the week following the game. The cost for pre-ordered programmes is £5 which includes postage and packing.
