Former Hereford United player Dean Smith has been appointed manager of Brentford.
His current assistant at Walsall, former Hereford United coach and manager Richard O'Kelly, is moving with him
"We believe Dean is exactly the authentic and strong leader we need to take Brentford forward," co-director Rasmus Ankersen said.
Walsall have paid compensation for the pair.
As a player, Smith moved to Edgar Street from Walsall in 1994 for a fee of £75,000, a club record for Hereford United. He left after the club was relegated from the Football League in 1997.
