Darlington's CEO is to quit the club, leaving supporters concerned that their proposed return to the town is in jeopardy. Martin Jesper has been the driving force behind the move to groundshare with the town's rugby club, which stalled three months ago over 'legal and commercial issues'. Jesper has told supporters that the club is at a crossroads and needs substantial investment to establish itself in the town, having originally been funded by over 200 individuals buying shares in the club, despite no longer having any debt and £300,000 in the bank.
Histon have put out a new call for investment with the current board saying they have taken the club as far as they can. It is just three years since the current owners took charge, and 18 months since a restructure that cleared the club's debts. The club plans to install a 3G surface at their ground but doesn't have the funds to do it, and the current incumbents are prepared to walk away for nothing for someone to put the money in.
Telford's board say they have had no offers of investment into the club since the Supporters Trust started looking to sell a portion of the club four months ago. Managing Director Lee Carter says the club has 'lost our way' in the last two years, with Trust membership dropping as low as 100 members until the fee was cut from £12 to £2.
Heanor Town's assistant manager says their team is a 'big, big club at this level' and that going to their Town Ground home is 'for sides like Westfields and Brocton one of their two biggest games of the season'. In comments on the club's own video of Saturday's 3-1 loss to Westfields it was also claimed that Sean Edwards' side celebrated the win like a Cup final victory.
