With the deadline to repay a £10.25million Council loan looming at the end of the day, Northampton Town have been handed a winding-up petition by HMRC.
Having missed repayments to the Council worth a reported £3million, the Cobblers will now face Court on November 16th to respond to the HMRC petition over unpaid tax.
Chairman David Cardoza told the club's website he "fully expects the matter to be resolved by the end of next week" and that:
"We are putting proposals to Northampton Borough Council regarding the repayment of the loan which we hope will prove satisfactory to them and that process is ongoing as we speak."
The HMRC debt is reported by the local press to be less than £100,000 with Cardoza blaming the delay in payment on the failed takeover.
