£150K Raised By Adam Stansfield Foundation
The Adam Stansfield Founation has raised £150K since it was launched following the death of the former Hereford United, Exeter and Yeovil footballer from bowel cancer at just 31 years old five years ago next week.
That £150K has been used both to raise awareness of bowel cancer and also to help fund junior football.
Last Saturday Adam's sister Andrea and brother in law Shaun were at Edgar Street to present the under 14's with a new football kit paid by the Foundation.
Shaun has been telling the Western Morning News about the Foundation.
"Since we began we have helped over 5,000 children through supporting PowerChair football in Devon, Downs Syndrome football in Devon and FA Junior Football Leaders Awards in Devon, Somerset and Herefordshire,” said Shaun who is a trustee and events coordinator.
“We have also supported over 100 junior football teams in all of the three counties Adam played in.
“We have worked in partnership with ‘Know the Score’ to raise awareness of Bowel Cancer and are currently distributing leaflets to pubs and restaurants highlighting the symptoms and raising awareness.
“During the last five years we have had many supporters who have challenged themselves with marathons, half marathons, swims, walks, football matches, bike rides and ultra-marathons. Some people have organised quizzes, parties, dances, dinners and auctions to raise funds. Others have donated items for auction and money from personal events.
“We are always humbled by what our friends, family and supporters do in Adam’s name and are always very grateful.”
