Ups And Downs

Micky Adams has been sacked by Tranmere after just six months as manager. The former Port Vale boss leaves with the Prenton Park outfit bottom of League Two after a 3-0 home loss to Oxford United. Tranmere are one of three sides capable of ending the season in the bottom two. Cheltenham are a point better off on 40 points, with Hartlepool on 41.

At the other end of League Two, Burton Albion are the first side to win promotion. Jimmy Floyd-Hasselbaink's side beat Morecambe 2-1 to secure a first season in League One. Shrewsbury can join them next Saturday if they beat relegation threatened Cheltenham, while Wycombe and Bury are vying for the third automatic spot.

In the Conference, Barnet are favourites to win the title after rivals Bristol Rovers conceded a late equaliser to draw 1-1 with Dover. The Bees are a point ahead of the Pirates and a win in their final game at home to mid-table Gateshead will secure promotion. The Pirates host relegation threatened Alfreton in their final match.

At the foot of the table the final relegation spot is between Alfreton and Welling. The two sides are level on points having played out a 2-2 draw at the Impact Arena yesterday. Welling now face Southport on the final day with the Sandgrounders still mathematically in danger, but Alfreton would need an eight goal swing in their favour including a Welling win.

In Conf North, Barrow will be crowned champions if they beat mid-table Lowestoft on the final day. AFC Fylde, Boston, Chorley, and Guiseley will contest the play-offs. In Conf South, Bromley are champions with Boreham Wood, Basingstoke, Havant & Waterlooville, and Whitehawk in the play-offs. Staines and Farnborough have been relegated, with the competition only running with 21 sides due to Salisbury's pre-season departure.

In the Southern League Premier, Corby and Poole are fighting it out for the title. Poole are a point behind the Steelmen with a game in hand. Burnham and Arlesey have been relegated, with Banbury likely to join them unless they win both their remaining games and Frome Town lose their final match. In the Northern Premier League, FC United of Manchester will be crowned champions if they pick up a point at home to Stourbridge on Tuesday night.

In the Southern League South & West, Merthyr will rack up the 100 point mark if they get a point from their final game with Stratford Town next Saturday. Bishops Cleeve and Bashley have been relegated, with Bashley having won only one game all season. In the Midland Football League, Basford United won the league with a 5-2 win over Westfields.
