Former Bull Reggie Bowen has died.
The former winger played a massive total of 423 first-team games between 1948/9 and 1960/1, a total only ever bettered by John Layton (Senior), Mel Pejic and Charlie Thompson.
Reggie’s grandson, Steven Yates, commented “He had suffered from Dementia for over 7 years and fought a long hard battle until he couldn’t fight any longer, he was an extremely strong man, both physically and mentally”
From Ron Parrott:
Born Tipton, Staffs.
A no-frills winger, Reggie was an excellent servant to United between 1948 and 1961 and a great crowd favourite. He amassed an incredible 423 first-team appearances. Reggie had previously been with West Bromwich Albion but had failed to make the first team at the Hawthorns. He was from good footballing stock, his father Toddy, played for Walsall and Wolves and his brother Tommy also played for Walsall and United. Reggie was one of the most popular players ever to don United’s famous white shirt and he will be sorely missed.
