Southern League Urged To Review Entry Rules

Chesham manager Andy Leese has urged the Southen League to review its entry criteria after Hereford United went into liquidation last Friday.

"It was no great surprise; they’ve been teetering on the edge for a while," Leese told the Bucks Free Press.

"It’s just disappointing that a number of us have played them, picked up points and now it’s all got to be adjusted again.

"It happened last year with Hinckley and it’s obviously very disappointing for them as a club given their history and the fan base. There are a lot of people losing out.

"It’s disappointing as well from the perspective of the league that it’s got to be altered again and it will distort things for a while. It’s no great surprise with the amount of court hearings they’ve had that it went against them.

"The leagues ought to be looking harder at the financial status of those clubs before they let them in.

"I’m sure the Southern League’s not the only league that does that, but I think there has to be more diligence when it comes to looking at them because that’s twice in two seasons that we’ve had this situation."
