The Southern League Premier match tonight between Histon and Bideford has been postponed as the Devon side cannot raise a side.
A statement from the club reads:
The availability of players from their work commitments is at the heart of the matter and with 5 of the squad being in the teaching profession, having to take 2 x 1/2 days leave (Tues pm/Wed am) in the week leading up to the Christmas break has proved impossible - several of the non teaching squad were also having difficulties in securing time off. Additionally there are also a couple of players absent from the squad through injury.
This fixture in Cambridgeshire would have been a forth away game in the last 2 weeks for the players and management following on from Corby, Biggleswade and Weymouth and would have meant notching up over 1,800 miles in total in that time.
Club officials will be in discussion with the Southern League in the days to come and are hoping for some understanding when dealing with this situation.
Bideford have not had a good season so far, with their floodlights failing, for a second time this term, at the weekend and the team on the pitch only just outside the relegation zone.
