Adam Stansfield At Edgar Street |
It was four years ago that former Hereford United striker Adam Stansfield died from bowel cancer.
As well as playing for Hereford, Stansfield also played for Exeter and Yeovil and was highly regarded by supporters at each of these clubs.
In his memory the Adam Stansfield Foundation was set up and their good work has helped to raise £150,000 which has been used both to raise awareness about bowel cancer and to help young footballers.
Andy Cole is chairman of the Foundation.
"None of us really knew how this would take off when we first got together to first think about how to drive it forward," Cole told the Express and Echo.
“Certainly no-one thought we would be four years on and the foundation would still be going from strength to strength.

“We are currently working with Hereford
United, Exeter City and Yeovil Town football in the community schemes
to offer free junior football leader courses that are sanctioned by the
FA.
“We have also recently funded a group session for children
with down syndrome and are focusing a lot on inclusivity and doing
things to help the disabled.
“We still get requests from local football clubs for assistance to set up a new team and are trying to do more in rural areas.
“We are doing a lot of work supporting local communities and working with the less able – both things that were dear to Adam’s heart.
“We cannot forget why we are here in the first place.
“The anniversary of Adam’s death on Sunday was a day of reflection for me. I was remembering some of the fun times we had and all the laughs as well as taking stock about where we are going.
“What struck me was how quickly that time has gone. Four years on, and we are now starting to think about the fifth anniversary and marking that in a special way for both family, supporters and Adam’s friends.
“In the future we are looking to build on our partnerships and continue to work hard in Adam’s memory.
“We would just like to thank everyone for all their support so far.”
