Young Bulls Win At Presteigne

Hereford United's under 18 side won their HFA Giantkilling Cup-Tie at Presteigne this evening by 11-0.

Tom Brock scored four, Dylan Bonella three, Jarrod Bowen two and Cory Williams and Ben Miller one each.

This report from the Presteigne OS:

As widely expected, Presteigne St Andrews FC’s Under 18s found Hereford United’s youth squad too hot to handle at a chilly Llanandras Park when the sides met in the semi-final of the HFA Giantkillers Cup on Thursday, 13 March.
Presteigne found themselves two goals down early on and it could have been worse when referee Chris Smith then pointed to the penalty spot after a foul that looked to be outside the area.
But credit to the match official who took notice of his assistant and then corrected his decision awarding a free kick on the edge of the box – it would have been very easy for him to stick to his guns.
This proved to be merely postponing the inevitable as far as Presteigne were concerned as Hereford netted three more goals before the break to head into the dressing rooms 5-0 to the good.
The second half was more of the same with the evening being summed up when Hereford scored their seventh goal – a fierce shot was well beaten out by the Presteigne goalkeeper Kieran Watkins, only for a Hereford player to seize on the loose ball and hit an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net.
Hereford were always at least a yard faster than the home side and they exploited this to the full – especially down both flanks where they looked particularly dangerous.
In the end, it finished 11-0 to the visitors but, to their credit, Roy Simcock’s side kept going right to the end but there are times when you have to hold up your hands and admit you ran into a very good side.
After all, you are not going to run into sides this good every week – a couple of the Hereford side have had first-team experience at Edgar Street – so, onwards and upwards.
There was a good crowd at Llanandras Park for this one, including the Hereford United boss Martin Foyle and his assistant Andy Porter who watched from the back of the stand throughout the first half.
