This an abridged version of a piece on Telford's official site:
10 years ago on 25th March 2004 Telford United faced its darkest days as the old club went into liquidation with massive debts. Many will remember the wide range of activity to keep the old club afloat and playing until the end of the season and then to create the new wholly fan-owned club in just a few weeks ready for the 2004/05 season.
Over the next 12 months Telford United is planning a series of events to mark the new Club's 10th anniversary and the many successes during the last decade.
Lee Carter, Chairman of the club for the first nine years and Managing Director for the last year, commented 'It is a time to recognise the great links that have been built between the Club and the town itself and reaffirm the slogan 'Proud of our Town and our Proud of our Club'. The Club’s community links are extensive and we want to draw on these links to get the whole town behind us as we did 10 years ago'.
Chair of the Supporters Trust that owns the Club, Michael Frater said 'I remember clearly as the Chief Executive of Telford & Wrekin Council in 2004 the sense of despair that engulfed not just the supporters but large parts of the town. What was impressive was how quickly that changed to a wakeup call to Telford fans and the wider community just what it would mean to lose our Club. Within just a few weeks we had set up the new club and that spirit and determination has remained with the Club and its fans over the last ten years.
