With the Bulls visiting Grimsby tomorrow night, Mariners' boss Paul Hurst was ultimately frustrated with his team's late surrender of all three points on Saturday.
Macclesfield equalised with a penalty three minutes into injury time at the end of the game to share the spoils, leading Hurst to confront referee Darren England:
"I'm unhappy with ourselves and unhappy with decisions that were made. The performance was good, but unfortunately the last minute changed everything.
"We should have been talking about a terrific three points, but instead it's all about decisions made during the game. In the second half they had a little go at us, but we were comfortable and had chances to put the game to bed.
"Then a couple of bad bits of play by ourselves gave them the chance to equalise with almost the last kick of the game. I'm annoyed and went in to see the referee for only the second time in all the time I've been a manager.
"I'm not happy with what I've been told. I just can't understand some of the decisions – particularly the Connor Jennings penalty call."
Striker Jennings was booked for diving in the box, with the Scunthorpe loanee claiming to the press that the linesman said it was a penalty before being over-ruled by the ref. The Silkmen also saw their keeper escape a red card after a foul, but Hurst says the Mariners have to now move on to the next game:
"You have to move on – you can't dwell on it. Looking at the table, it would have been a big three points. We're still in a fantastic position and if we continue playing like that we will have no issues whatsoever."
Hurst will have to check on the fitness of Craig Doig, who was withdrawn through injury during the second half of Saturday's game. Fellow defender Clayton McDonald, brother of the Bulls' Rod, is unlikely to be fit either.
Both he and ex-Bull Joe Colbeck have missed the last two matches through injury. Colbeck, who has been with the Mariners since leaving Edgar Street in the summer of 2012, is not expected to be fit for the return fixture at the end of the month either.
Update: The Mariners have signed Scunthorpe defender Andrew Boyce on loan for the rest of the season. The former Lincoln defender has made only two sub appearances for his new side since joining them, initially on loan, in November.
