Wrexham caretaker boss Billy Barr led his side to a win at Edgar Street at the start of the month, but it was the Dragons' only win in eight Conference games.
The 3-1 loss to Grimsby on Saturday was the third time the Dragons had conceded three goals in Barr's five games in charge, causing him to slip down the bookies' lists to 25/1 from odds-on favourite. Current Nuneaton boss Kevin Wilkin is the new odds-on favourite.
Barr warned his side that they were in danger of dropping into the relegation battle after yesterday's loss:
"The boys in there are lower than they've been but it could get worse before it gets better and that's what is the reality of the situation that we're in. They're desperate to do well.
"The next week will resolve the manager's position one way or another but I keep saying to the boys it's them that's going to be here regardless of who is stood in the technical area.
"It's them that have to make sure that the teams below are not creeping up because it's a precarious position with nine games left."
The Dragons have scored only four goals in the last seven games with Barr hoping to sign loan reinforcements, but talks with the club's board appear to have scuppered that plan with finances at the Racecourse still tight.
