Following this morning's revelations that a former Portsmouth player deliberately got sent off to earn a £70,000 payout, six people are under arrest in the latest round of match-fixing allegations.
While the names of the six are yet to be released, Sam Sodje admitted to the Sun on Sunday that he earned the payout after deliberately punching Oldham player Jose Baxter.
The paper also filmed a current Oldham player, winger Cristian Montano, apologising for not getting a yellow card at the right time during a game in October, while Sodje's brother Akpo, currently at Tranmere, was also reported to be willing to get booked in games for money.
The National Crime Agency told the press: "We can confirm that the Sun on Sunday has passed material from its own investigation to the NCA.
"An active NCA investigation is now under way and we are working closely with the Football Association and the Gambling Commission. Six people are in custody and are being questioned by NCA officers. We cannot comment further at this stage."
Montano played against the Bulls while on loan at Dagenham in January 2012. Sam and Akpo Sodje are younger brothers to current Macclesfield player/assistant boss Efe. The 41 year old has not been linked to the matter.
