Pejic Set For Stoke Move As Askey Questions Silkmen Future

Former Bull Mel Pejic is to return to his first club to take over as head of the Academy medical team at Stoke, leaving his physio role at Macclesfield after today's game.

Pejic started his career with the Potteries side, leaving them for Edgar Street in 1980. He told Macclesfield's official site: “It came out of the blue really. It’s a position heading up the medical team at the academy there, and the chance to go back to Stoke is a fantastic opportunity for me.”

“But there are definitely mixed emotions as I’ve had a really enjoyable time here at Macclesfield and in particular the last six months working with John and Efe and being a part of what they are trying to achieve here, and I do feel like I’m leaving the project unfinished a little, and wish the club all the best of luck in the future.”

Pejic joined the Silkmen in August last year, having carried the bag at Wrexham, the Welsh national team, and with Bolton's reserves.

The move comes with manager John Askey saying after today's game that he had no idea who was actually running the club.

He told the Manchester Evening News that he had 10 players out of contract in January with no idea who to speak to at the club to arrange new deals, saying that while people were trying to deal with the financial problems no-one was actually running the day to day matters.

The Silkmen have already pleaded with fans to raise another £150,000 to see them through the season, with 1,235 attending today's win over Salisbury.
