Number seventeen on the Bulls Advent Calendar is Joe Wade.
While an amateur with Arsenal, wartime duties saw him stationed at RAF Credenhill, guesting for the Bulls during his stay towards the end of World War II.
A regular for Arsenal's 1952/3 championship winning side despite only having a handful of appearances in the previous six seasons, Wade was injured the following season and rarely played again for the Gunners, joining the Bulls as player/manager in 1956.
Wade had six years with the Bulls as boss, winning the double of Southern League North West and Southern League Cup in 1958/9 before leaving in 1962 to concentrate on his sports shop.
He returned briefly to the Bulls in 1971 to act as caretaker-boss in the wake of John Charles' departure but otherwise didn't return to football, preferring to supply kit to the Bulls through his shop. He died in 2005, aged 84.
