Bulls End Goal Drought

SeeBlocker watched the game for BN

Hereford manager Martin Foyle opted to make changes to the side that lost 2-0 at Burton on Sunday. Daniel Lloyd-Weston, Chris Bush, Damon Lathrope and Ross Dyer came in for Rhys Evans, Rob Purdie, Kevin Krans and Eric Odhiambo respectively.

The visitors started off being the most confident, but Hereford weren't without their fair share of chances. Early on in the first period, Walker sent a free kick from 20 yards out into the heart of the box which was headed out for a Hereford corner. Artus delivered the corner into the box, but Chester’s keeper, John Danby, caught confidently.

Leadbitter made a clever run down the right wing and crossed the ball deep into the danger area. The ball found Dyer’s head, who found the back of Chester’s net, albeit with a deflection off Jason Jerrett who was credited with an own goal.

Dyer Gets The Plaudits For Hereford's First Goal
Despite Hereford taking the lead on 16 minutes, a frantic 5 minutes followed which saw United on the back foot, not for the first time this season. A long range Chester effort was dropped by Lloyd-Weston; with the goal gaping, Lindfield’s first effort was blocked by the retreating Bush, but his second shot went in to make the score level.

A second error by Lloyd-Weston cost Hereford when he went a good 40-yards off his line, but his clearance only found  Seddon who made no mistake in firing the ball into the back of the net and propelling Chester ahead.

Debutant Loanee Damon Lathrope, didn't go unnoticed in the first half, with a shot from 25-yards whistling agonisingly wide. Following this, captain O’Keefe had a great chance to bring Hereford back into the game when Bush crossed the ball in from the left wing. O’Keefe turned and shot only for his effort to be saved by the impressive Danby.

Dyer Is Brought Down. Artus Took The Resulting Free Kick From Which Dyer Found The Box
However, United weren't behind for long when Dyer got Hereford’s second goal, this time without any help from Chester,s defence. Left midfielder Artus delivered a free kick deep into the Hereford box and once again Dyer got on the end and glanced the ball into the goal.

A Very Happy Ross Dyer
HT: Hereford 2 – Chester 2

The Bulls came out full of confidence in the second period instantly looking the better of the two sides. Leadbitter used the right wing to his advantage when he made a excellent run to cross the ball in, but Dyer couldn’t quite get a good enough shot away to put the Bulls ahead.

Michael Rankine impressed United fans during a prolonged period of pressure from the hosts. He worked well to keep possession and then forced Dandy to make another exceptional save with a tip over the bar.

The Bulls kept piling on the pressure through the second half with Chester’s keeper being forced to make more quality saves to keep the visitors in the game. Rankine continued to get shots away with one being just wide of the upright from a snap-shot.

After another Bulls shot was tipped over the crossbar, substitute Brown’s corner was dealt with fairly easily by Chester’s defence.

Was This A Foul?
A disallowed goal not long from time denied Hereford the 3 points. When Bush delivered a excellent free kick from halfway, with the ball being bundled home only for referee Huxtable to give a foul on Danby.

Or Should It Have Been Given?
FT: Hereford 2 – Chester 2

Following on from Sunday, this was another improved performance by the Bulls who had plenty of shots on goal and  without the aid of keeper Danby, Hereford could have scored 5 or even 6.

At the other end young Lloyd-Weston was a little unfortunate to be punished for two errors, which ultimately denied Hereford from taking all three points.
