An Asset Of Community Value

HUST acting chairman Chris Williams has been busy over the past few days giving interviews to the local media about the Trust's hope that Edgar Street will continue to be used for professional football. Two of these interviews have been with BBC Hereford and Worcester.

BN has already posted much of his interview with Trevor Owens, but Williams also spoke to H&W's Andrew Easton who started by asking Williams what is an ACV (Asset of Community Value).

"It'a process as much as anything else," said Williams.

"It's there to protect assets which the community values as the name would suggest

"In this particular case the aims and objectives of the Hereford United Supporters Trust  are that we should try and protect professional football in Herefordshire.

"The idea of that is of using Edgar Street as an example, really that's the only facilty in the county that could have a professional level of football.

"By trying to protect it, it means we can try to continue to have that level of football in the county.

"The legislation come from the Localism Act of 2011 and that provides communities of like-minded people to get together and look at an asset and say we think that is worth keeping, let's put some protection measures in place.

"We've approached the Council and we intend to use it to try and protect Edgar Street in its present form.

"The Act allows the community to say well don't sell it, we may never be able to replace it.

"It allows a timescale of up to six months for any change procedures to be put on hold so that we can then consider alternatives and try and negotiate with any of the parties there to keep professional football in Herefordshire. I think it is vital to do this.

"The present board of Hereford United are really keen and have worked really hard to try and put the community into the way that the club is run.

"And as the community trust we hope to be able to help and support that."
