Would Better Publicity Increased Yesterday's Attendance?

Yesterday Cardiff City brought what was described by the Hereford United Official Website in their pre-match publicity as a 'development squad' to Edgar Street for a pre-season friendly.

United entertain a Cardiff City development squad in their final home friendly of their pre-season schedule.

However as BN later reported Cardiff fielded a strong starting 11 with 428 1st team appearances between them as well as 5 international players.

The attendance was 771 which included 30 in the away area.

In his post match comments manager Martin Foyle suggested he was disappointed with the size of the gate.

He was asked if he was expecting such a strong Cardiff squad.

"Yes I was," Foyle told BBC Hereford and Worcester.

"I'd been in touch with Dick Bates, I knew what was coming.

"Probably disappointed with the support.

"We should be getting more money in for a side of that quality".

Foyle's comment beg the question if he knew such a good squad from Cardiff was coming to the friendly, did he tell the OS team so that more publicity could have been released about the friendly?

BBC H&W's Keith Hall also noted the size of the crowd.

"I wish we had known about the team two or three days ago as I think the crowd would have been bigger."

At a time when the club continues living from hand to mouth an extra 100 adults through the turnstiles would have brought in £1000 plus what they might have spent in the bar or on a programme, etc.
