The Bulls travel to the Deva Stadium tonight for the first time since 2007 to face the reformed Chester side.
The Bulls have claimed two draws and two wins in their last four trips up the A49, with the last two fixtures in League Two. In the 07/08 season Chester narrowly avoided relegation as the Bulls claimed promotion to League One. Toumani Diagouraga's equaliser helped the Bulls claim a 1-1 draw at the Deva, while Ben Smith and Gary Hooper scored at Edgar Street for a 2-2 draw.
While Chester boss Neil Young has already spoken of the learning curve his side are to face after surging back up the leagues following bankruptcy, only two of the XI that started on Saturday had no real experience at this level. Paul Linwood, Jon Danby, and Kevin McIntyre all had extensive experience with the former Chester club, with the midfield of McIntyre, Jason Jarrett, and Danny Harrison having over 1,100 senior games between them.
Bulls fans were a little puzzled at Martin Foyle's decision to field Rob Purdie as a wide midfielder on Saturday, with the two-time Player of the Year failing to impose himself on the game. The Bulls looked more dangerous up front with Danny Pilkington replacing Purdie and Chris Sharp coming in for Sam Smith during the second half and the sub pair will be eager to take over the starting berths.
Chester vs Hereford United, Deva Stadium, Tuesday 13th August, 7.45pm.
