Gateshead have parted company with manager Anth Smith, the club have confirmed.
Rumours circled last night that Smith had offered his resignation, with the local radio reporting that the offer had been rejected. A club statement tonight says that 'after further talks on Sunday' the resignation had been accepted by chairman Graham Wood.
Assistant boss David Rush has been installed as caretaker manager, with Wood saying he will be in charge of their game at Southport next weekend as they are not going to make a hasty appointment.
Smith, whose only previous experience was in the second tier of the Northern Football League, won only eight of his 29 games in charge.
