Dick Bate and HUFC

Dick Bate
The former FA Elite Coaching Director returned to Edgar Street yesterday as Academy Manager for Cardiff City.

Dick Bate joined up with the HUFC management back in 1995 following a three-year spell as Technical Director for the Malaysia National Team.

Yesterday, Bate discussed with Bulls News how he joined The Bulls.

"I knew my time in Malaysia was coming to an end and my wife and I planned to return to England and make a home in the countryside.  We had our eye on a property near Ross-on-Wye (where they still live) so in the previous December I wrote to Hereford United asking if they needed a coach."

"The following January I received a letter inviting me to team up with John Layton here at Edgar Street."

"I enjoyed my time here particularly working with the youngsters although the facilities were not the best."

"Coming back today, the most noticeable changes are the great improvements in the  dressing rooms and a top notch playing surface.  I'm aware of the financial difficulties but there is certainly a feel that The Club is moving forward."

"I'm not far from the time when I will call it a day on my working life in football and when I retire I'll probably buy myself a season ticket for HUFC and become a regular visitor to Edgar Street."
