News Round-Up

Brighton have reported a £9.1million loss for the first year at their new Amex Stadium. Turnover trebled to £22million, but total wages doubled to £14.7million as staff numbers increased from 64 to 122. They also lost £6.8million the previous season. Former Bulls forward Lee Morris has signed for NPL side Leek Town. The 32 year old had effective retired from playing in the summer when he took a job coaching in Derby's youth department.

Accrington took 28 fans to Gillingham yesterday to watch their loss. Gillingham chairman Paul Scally bought them all food. WPL side Llanelli are in court tomorrow to defend another winding-up petition, their fourth of the season. The financially crippled side had their social club reposessed by the local council last week due to nearly £10,000 in unpaid rent.

The Non-League Paper reports that Chelmsford's players held a crisis meeting on Thursday over unpaid wages. The club denied claims of non-payment earlier in the week, but the paper reports chairman Mansell Wallace as saying the players would be paid February's wages soon.

Southend have sacked manager Paul Sturrock after slipping out of the League Two play-off picture - but have asked him to take charge of their JPT final against Crewe in two weeks. The veteran Scottish boss is expected to be replaced by Phil Brown tomorrow, but will return to the club for their Wembley trip.
