News Round-Up


Newport chairman Chris Blight has confirmed he has quit the club despite an outpouring of backing for him from fans since he revealed he had been targetted for abuse. Blight has also resigned his position on the Conference board. Nuneaton captain Mark Noon will miss the start of the season after breaking his leg in their pre-season game with Brackley Town.

Wrexham are to miss out on striker target Damian Reeves with Gillingham expected to sign the former Altrincham man. The 26 year old scored 44 times last term but turned down new terms at Alty to go full time. The Dragons did have some pre-season cheer last night, beating Kilmarnock 3-1 in their latest pre-season friendly. Former Bulls striker Lee Morris has left Solihull Moors to take up a coaching role with Derby. The veteran will coach the Rams' u13 side.

Lincoln are trialling former Grimsby defender Gary Silk. The 27 year old left the Mariners in the summer after a season at Blundell Park. The Imps are to miss out on a windfall from Watford's sale of former keeper Scott Loach after the deal to sell him to Ipswich was valued at just £200,000. The Imps are to expect less than £20,000 from a deal when they were hoping for £150,000.

Tamworth have announced the signings of three more players. Winger Peter Till, 26, joins after being released by Fleetwood midway through a two year deal after just 18 league games. Former Chesterfield midfielder Lloyd Kerry, 23, joins after two years with Hinckley, and keeper James Wren, a hapless trialist with the Bulls last summer, arrives after being released by Burton without playing a senior game.

Woking have signed French defender Mike Cestor following his release from Leyton Orient. The 20 year old Parisian had three loan spells with the Cards last season. Bristol Rovers' planned new stadium has received planning permission in a council vote today. Local residents continued to object to the plan, but the vote was carried with only one councillor voting against the project.


Crawley denied yesterday that Sean O'Driscoll was about to leave to return to Nottm Forest, where he had previously coached, and today they have had to deny that Director of Football Steve Coppell was to make the move instead.
