Hereford United captain Rob Purdie spoke to BBC H&W's Keith Hall after yesterday's match at Edgar Street.
"First half we really came at them," said Purdie.
"The goal just after half-time gave them some momentum.
"We did what we set out to do which was to get the three points and hope that something helped us elsewhere but that didn't happen.
"We've been confident going into the last five or six games, we just needed that one extra win which unfortunately has eluded us.
"We heard it was 1-1 at Burton at half-time and Burton had missed a penalty.
"But during the game we concentrated on ourselves and hoped for a bit of good fortune elsewhere but it just didn't come."
Purdie has spent several years of his career with the Bulls.
"We fought so hard to get back into the football league - it took us three play-off attempts - and then whilst I wasn't here we went up to League One and got relegated.
"So it has been an up and down ride and it's a shame we've gone back down to the Conference.
"The club will always be here. We'll always have a chance of getting back out of the Conference especially if we can keep the nucleus of the team.
"There's a few players out of contract and we'll be talking to the manager and the chairman over the next couple of days to try and resolve that or to see where people stand.
"I haven't really thought about my future because we've been so focused on the last couple of games."
