News Round-Up

Fleetwood will have to wait until the weekend to confirm their promotion to the Football League after being held to a 1-1 draw by Wrexham in last night's top-two Conference clash. Elsewhere last night, League One relegation beckons for Rochdale after they lost 2-5 at home to Sheff Utd. The Spotland outfit are 11 points adrift of safety with only four games left.

The Police have called for football clubs to pay more for Policing of football matches. Clubs are currently only obliged to pay for Policing on their land, but chiefs now want clubs to be responsible for costs at places like town centres and railway stations as fans travel to matches. A report by the Association of Chief Police Officers estimates that it costs up to £70million to Police games outside of grounds. Press reports say football already hands over £500million in taxes to the Government.

Rotherham have sold over 2,000 season tickets for their new New York ground. New manager Steve Evans says he was told by Crawley to leave immediately after 'having his head turned' by the Millers. Evans told the press the Millers were happy for him to remain at the Broadfield Stadium until the summer, but he made the move with assistant Paul Raynor immediately with Steve Coppell happy to come in.

Telford have announced that they will offer free admission to their rearranged match with Tamworth. The original game was abandoned before half time due to a waterlogged pitch with the offer flying in the face of local rivals Shrewsbury, who are charging fans that have not exchanged old tickets before yesterday's deadline for their rearranged match with Port Vale. Port Vale's Administrator has warned 15 life-time season ticket holders that they are unlikely to continue to receive the offer in the future. They paid anything up to £8,000 in 2005 to have life-time tickets, but any buyer for the club does not have to honour the tickets.

New Luton boss Paul Buckle has confirmed that he tried to sign Stuart Fleetwood from the Bulls while he was at Bristol Rovers. He told the local press he was pleased to finally get to work with the player but that "He’s probably been a bit expensive over the years Stuart, not by salary, but by what people wanted for him."

Gillingham's home match with Swindon on April 21st could be played in an empty stadium after the local council put a prohibition notice on it after the Police warned there were 'serious concerns about public disorder' over the match. The Gills have been in dispute with the local Police over charges all season, with their FA Cup tie with Stoke also subject to a prohibition notice before they agreed to higher profile Policing.

Darlington's Administrator has set a date of May 2nd to present a CVA proposal to creditors. The club must exit Administration and pay off footballing creditors by the Conference AGM of June 9th to avoid being dumped out of the competition, but face a 28 day cooling off period after the CVA offer before the deal can be formally accepted. Burton chairman Ben Robinson says he will not rush to appoint a manager after caretaker boss Gary Rowett guided the team to a four match unbeaten run.

Kettering will remain a full time side next season according to incoming owner George Rolls. He has told the press the club's players 'will not have an easy ride' next season as he plans to send them out coaching in local schools and community projects after training has finished. Portsmouth's Administrator says he has had no firm bids for the club but he hopes to receive at least one before the money runs out, however Trevor Birch 'cannot rule out the possibility of liquidating the company' if a buyer is not found. He has called a creditors meeting for the end of April so they can discuss the situation.

Darren Patterson has left Rotherham following Steve Evans' appointment at the club. The former Oxford manager had been caretaker boss to Andy Scott prior to his caretaker role in the last few weeks. Former Bulls loanee Peter Gulacsi is set for a surprise FA Cup role after Liverpool recalled him from his loan at Hull to participate in this weekend's FA Cup semi-final with Everton. The Hungarian is likely to be on the bench after not playing in 2012 following a knee injury.
